It’s always comforting when you hear of couples finding love right under their noses.  This is exactly how Chris and Shamara Johnson’s budding love sprouted.  Both native’s of Durham, NC, it wasn’t until they each returned to Durham later in life where they were then introduced through a mutual friend.  After falling for one another, it was clear that the “Bull City” (Durham, NC) will always hold a special place in their hearts because not only is this their hometown but this is where they found love.

The Bridal Hair Consultation

Bride Shamara scheduled her bridal hair consultation a few months in advance of her actual wedding date which gave her plenty of time to prepare and confirm her final wedding day look.  Finalizing her bridal hair look certainly took some process of elimination but with patience a final look was confirmed.  When booking bridal hair services with me a bridal hair consultation for all of my brides is required.  This time is your time to share inspiration pictures of what you wish to see your hair look like on your big day.  Not only do we discuss inspiration pictures but this also allows me to assess your hair needs to determine what should be considered to best achieve your desired look.  Considerations are discussed such as, should you wear hair extensions or should you wear your natural hair; if you are wearing hair extensions then what texture would be best; etc.  This gives me the opportunity to actually style your hair and better gauge how much time will be needed the day of your wedding for me to complete your look from start to finish.  The bridal hair consultation is without a doubt A MUST!

Wedding Day in the Heart of The City

When I arrived to Shamara’s Bridal suite at the downtown Durham Marriott, excitement and spirits filled the room!  I was welcomed with open arms and began setting up my workspace.  Once the bride was ready, the magic began!  It’s important to note that I always recommend my Brides have their hair styled before their makeup with final hair touches to be done at the end.

Shamara has beautiful thick natural hair but was concerned that her hair may not hold up throughout the entire evening.  During her consultation I was able to recommend clip-in hair extensions that closely matched her hair texture and would help best achieve her bridal hair look.  Long natural textured cascading waves were center stage and complimented her smile and cheek bones.  Make-up artist Dainasia Edwards created a breathtaking color

palette that enhanced Shamara’s already natural beauty making the complete look scream ultra luxe.

When it became time for Shamara to reveal herself to her bridal party, all you could hear were Ooo’s and Ahh’s as she emerged wearing a David Tutera gown! She was BEAUTIFUL!

Chris and Shamara exchanged their nuptials during their black tie ceremony at The Rickhouse; a modernized brewery that

overlooks the Old Durham’s Ball Park located right in the heart of the city where they grew up.  The venue was tastefully decorated with florals arranged with hues of ivory, burgundy and gold from Mya Allen of Forever Glamm.

Like many engaged and newlywed couples, COVID-19 has altered their honeymoon schedule.  With their health and safety being a primary focus, The Johnson’s are looking forward to spending their honeymoon island hopping in the Western Caribbean once it’s safe to do so. Until then, they are in wedded bliss and enjoying being newlyweds!
