FW14

New York Fashion Week is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, along with those in Paris, London and Milan. So, there is no surprise that fashion designers and beauty professionals see this biannual occasion as a tremendous opportunity to participate and showcase their artistic abilities. With runway presentations occurring daily over a 7-9 day timeframe there are plenty of chances to catch a showcase, network and possibly see a notable fashion icon.

As a hairstylist, having the opportunity to participate in New York Fashion Week has been a big dream of mine.  The feeling of seeing my name on final call sheets was absolutely surreal.  During this year’s February 2014 New York Fashion Week showcases I was on the hair teams of two different designers.

Designer: Erin Fetherston

Lead Hair Stylist: Brian C. Hawkins

Designer Erin presented a showcase themed “Charmed I’m Sure” which put you in the mind-set of preppy school girls.  Lead hairstylist Brian created a look that would fit in perfectly with the theme.  The hair style was focused on a deep sleek side part with some models having a low classic ponytail and some models with hair down hanging freely.  The generous product sponsors for this showcase were ISO Beauty, Salon Grafix and Olivia Garden.

Designer: Gita Omri

Lead Hair Stylist: Kat Bishop

Gita Omri presented a trendy and fashion forward collection that any woman would love to wear.  I really enjoyed participating in this showcase because the team was awesome and worked well together.  I had the pleasure of meeting designer Gita Omri who is humble and has a true gift for fashion.  Lead hair stylist Kat created a roused faux bob using Kevin Murphy products that tied the entire collection together seamlessly.  Kat’s leadership and attention to detail ensured a cohesive hair look going down the runway.

I am excited to be checking another goal off of my list of things to do and can confirm again that hard work truly pays off.  If you have a dream continue to pursue it and don’t give up.
